Reiki is a complementary healing method

It has, in essence, been around for thousands of years. It is a simple and effective therapy that is safe and can be combined with 'conventional' medicine. It will not interfere with prescribed medical treatment but can enhance the healing process, by allowing the body (and mind) to be more balanced and relaxed, enabling our energy to be directed towards the cause of the illness rather than simply suppressing the symptoms.

The Reiki Symbol

The Japanese word "rei-ki" consist of two syllables

"Rei" which describes the universal or spiritual wisdom aspect of the

"Ki" energy or life force.

In essence we are dealing with the Universal Life Force Energy of everything around us.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words best translated as "Sharp or Clever Spirit"

Rei - Spiritual Wisdom

The direct translation of Rei from Japanese is Ghost and is sometimes translated as Universal. The use of Universal in this context signifies a wisdom that comes from that which is around us, a Higher Self or Spiritual Consciousness, that we can not control, that is able to guide energy to where it can most effectively be used.

Ki - The Life Force

The direct translation for Ki from Japanese is Vapour or Ghost. Its equivalent in many different languages, Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Mana in Hawaiian. It has also been referred to as Odic force, Orone, and Bioplasma. All of which refer to the energy of life. Often called the Universal Life Force.

Ki animates everything we do; it is responsible for our emotions, dreams, and our daily performance. The Life force flows inside and outside every living thing. When this life force becomes low, we feel run down and this is when illness can take hold. If we can correct this imbalance and reestablish a free flow of energy we have a better chance of fighting off the illness and thus the healing process can be enhanced.
